Troy quarterback Sam Coleman throws for 217 yards in Troy’s big win over Greenville.
TROY — Greenville came into a Greater Western Ohio Conference game prepping to stop Troy’s running game and force quarterback Sam Coleman to defeat Greenville through the air. Coleman did just that by completing 13-of-15 passes for 217 yards and two touchdowns and running for a TD. The performance sparked a 42-0 win for Troy and improved the Trojans to 7-2 overall.
Troy wasted little time in scoring as Jaydon Culp-Bishop ran for a 7-yard TD on a 4th and 3 yards to go from the seven yard line. There was 6:44 left in the quarter when he scored two minutes later.
Troy got on the board again as Coleman hit McGillvary for a 31 yard score, and with 4:36 to go in the first the Trojans were up 14-0. A long completion to Spencer Klopfenstein set up a 1-yard run by Sam Jackson for the Troy score. It was his 13th TD of the season on just 300 yards rushing.
“Wow, what can you say about our offensive line. I had ample time to throw on every pass,” stated Troy QB Sam Coleman. “Matt McGillvary is just fantastic. We try to get him the ball as much as possible. And he is so good at getting open”
“Our offensive played well both running the ball ands in pass protection,” Troy coach Matt Burgbacher said. “There was no let down this week coming into this game. Well it is now Piqua week. We will enjoy this game tonight and get ready for Piqua”
Greenville quarterback Owen Paulus struggled the whole game trying to fint time to throw the ball and running the option. He was hurried and rushed all night. The Greenville defense is very young with six sophomores starting and were just out-manned the whole game. The second half was played with a running clock as Troy led 42-0 at the half.
The Trojans kept on scoring in the second quarter as Coleman connected with McGillvary from 46 yards out with 5:16 left in quarter and that gave Troy a 28-0 lead. Troy DB Zach Boyer intercepted a Greenville pass and ran it in for a touchdown only to be called back on a penalty. Troy got the ball at the Greenville 19, and Culp-Bishop ran 19 yards for a TD. After a Greenville punt, Troy got the ball again and Coleman took off running and scored from 10 yards out.
Troy was led in rushing from Jaydon Culp-Bishop with 22 rushes for 164 yards and two touchdowns. Sam Jackson had three carries for 11 yards and one touchdown. McGillvary was the star receiving-wise with four receptions for two TD’s and 89 yards. Jacob Shoop had for 47 yards and Spencer Klopfenstein caught two balls for 39 yards.
Troy will face the Piqua Indians Friday at Troy Memorial Stadium.
