Braves earn come-from-behind victory in first game but lose run-rule in second game of doubleheader.
SPRINGFIELD — Fresh off of a run to the regional finals, Shawnee looked like a contender again in its season opener against Miamisburg… for a few hours.
Shawnee came back from a one-run deficit and beat the Vikings 6-4 in the first game of a spring break Monday afternoon doubleheader. But the Braves looked less than mediocre in a 14-1 loss in five innings in game two. [Read more…]
Mount Healthy capitalized on four first-half interceptions and jumped out to quick lead against Tecumseh on Friday night. Kenton Ridge beat Tippecanoe 19-16 in a crucial CBC Kenton Trail Division game at City Park Stadium. The Cougars scored three touchdowns in the third quarter to earn the victory. Mitchell Schneider threw two touchdown passes, and Jayden Davis ran for a touchdown. Tippecanoe missed two field goal attempts and one extra point attempt in the game. Kenton Ridge beat Shawnee 34-14 in a Central Buckeye Conference Kenton Trail Division game at Richard L. Phillips Field on Friday night. Mitchell Schneider threw for three touchdowns, and Jayden Davis had a 65-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to help put the game away and also had two second-half interceptions. Springfield graduate Dorian Hunter named game’s best linebacker.
DAYTON — The North team’s first touchdown in the MVFCA All-Star game last night at Welcome Stadium was a sight Northmont fans are familiar with.
Graham Oberer threw a 50-yard pass to Cameron Taylor in the second quarter to put the North on the scoreboard. The two Northmont graduates connected 11 times on touchdown passes last season for the Thunderbolts.
“I’ve got that good quarterback in Graham, and we’ve got that good connection,” Taylor said. “We kind of had a good feeling coming into the game. We just came in here ready to play.” [Read more…]
Covington graduate and Ohio University recruit AJ Ouellette rushes for two third-quarter touchdowns.
DAYTON — Covington running back AJ Ouellette wasn’t about to lose his last football game as a high school player.
Ouellette scored two of the North squad’s four touchdowns in the third quarter to help beat the South squad 44-26 in the 31st Miami Valley Football Coaches Association All-Star game on Friday night at Welcome Stadium.
“We knew we were going to break it loose on offense,” Ouellette said after the game. “We just had to get a feel of what the defense was doing. The offense started opening up huge holes, and basically I could walk to them. It was easy.”
Alder scored four runs in the second inning to take the lead for good en-route to a 6-2 win over Northwestern in a Division II regional semifinal game at Mason on Thursday night. The Pioneers got three consecutive hits in the inning t help overcome a 1-0 Northwestern advantage. Alder added another run in each of the fourth and fifth innings, while Northwestern added another in the fifth. The Warriors had three hits in the game, and Alder pitcher Mady Watson struck out seven Northwestern batters. Maddie Crew went 2-for-4 for Northwestern and stole two bases. The Warriors finish the season 27-4. Alder advances to play Shawnee in a regional final game on Saturday at Mason. Shawnee earned a 10-0 run-rule victory over Franklin in six innings on Wednesday at Mason in a Divsion II regional semifinal game. Shawnee pitcher Emily McKillip stretched her scoreless streak to 30 innings in the game. McKillip struck out 13 Franklin batters and allowed two hits in the game. The Braves capitalized on a couple of Franklin errors in the second inning and scored six runs. Shawnee never looked back and added three more in the fourth and one in the sixth. Karlee Sine and Aliya Saunders went 3-for-4 with 1 RBI each for Shawnee in the game. Morgan Spitzer went 2-for-3, while Lauren Linn and Morgan Loveless went 2-for-4. Shawnee totaled 13 hits in the game. The Braves advance to the regional finals and will play the winner of Northwestern vs. Alder.
