Alder scored two runs in the top of the seventh yesterday against Shawnee to earn an 8-7 come-from-behind win over the Braves. The Pioneers earned their first state tournament berth and regional championship with the win. They will play Licking Valley in a Division II semifinal game on Thursday at 12:30. Shawnee finished the season 26-4.
Kenton Ridge finished season 31-3 and with fourth runner-up finish in school history.
AKRON — Kenton Ridge could see all hope of a state title slipping away in the fifth inning of the Division II state final game against Newark Licking Valley last Saturday at Firestone Stadium in Akron.
Licking Valley took a 6-2 lead after two runners scored on an error by Kenton Ridge second baseman Monika Foster. The runs marked the second consecutive three-run inning for Licking Valley.

Licking Valley plays small-ball early to take lead the Panthers’ wouldn’t lose.
AKRON — The Kenton Ridge Cougars softball team was on a magical run to the Division II state championship game and on the heels of a 20-game winning streak. They picked an unfortunate time for things to go wrong. Kenton Ridge’s run ended in the with a 6-5 loss to Newark Licking Valley in the title game on Saturday.
Coming off of the heels of a nail-biting pitcher’s duel in the 1-0 state semifinal victory over Granville and amidst the 20-game streak, the Cougars had relied on timely hitting and precision defense to survive and advance. Pitcher Courtney Lopez had been a crafty pitcher who would wiggle out of some of the tightest jams. Things went a little south in all aspects against Licking Valley. [Read more…]

AKRON — Granville sophomore pitcher Abby Barker was the fifth OHSFSCA Division II all star to have thrown against Kenton Ridge this season. There was no doubt after the game from Kenton Ridge head coach Sarah Ivory, outfielder Brittany Harting, and pitcher Courtney Lopez that Barker was the best pitcher the Cougars had seen all season.
Unfortunately for Barker, she became the fifth such all-star pitcher to lose to Kenton Ridge this season.

The “Team of Destiny” is destined for one more game. The Kenton Ridge Lady Cougars softball team defeated Granville 1-0 on Friday night June 7 to earn their chance to win the Division II state title. It was a game you could hear live on the Top Billing Sports Network which you can now listen to on our Broadcast Archives page. The Lady Cougars are 31-2 and will play for the state championship against Newark Licking Valley on Saturday at Firestone Stadium. Game time scheduled for 7:00 pm.

Things looked troublesome on offense for Kenton Ridge in the early going as Granville’s pitcher, first team All-Ohio selection Abby Barker blazed her fastball past batter after Cougar batter racking up seven strikeouts after four innings of play.
