But the Braves found Mason’s stadium 30 minutes before first pitch and got on the field in time, albeit with little warm up time.
“We literally warmed up in like 30 minutes,” junior second baseman Morgan Spitzer said. “But we’re pretty good at that. We don’t need a lot of warm up time.” [Read more…]

MASON — Emily McKillip was at it again.
Shawnee’s senior pitcher struck out 13 batters and gave up one hit to help lift the Braves to a 10-0 win over Franklin in a Div. II regional semifinal game. McKillip batted in three runs in the second on a fly ball to center field that Franklin couldn’t field. The runs gave Shawnee a 5-0 lead and helped them solidify the lead.
“Emily’s just a stud,” junior second baseman Morgan Spitzer said of McKillip after the game. “No one can hit off of her. It’s pretty easy to play defense behind her. She’s really working hard. Her arm was hurting her, and she was fighting through it. She’s fighting through it; she’s awesome.” [Read more…]

Shawnee beat the Cougars 4-3 in comeback win the last time the two teams played.
SPRINGFIELD — Kenton Ridge and Shawnee are rivals in every sport. The two Clark County schools are members of the Central Buckeye Conference and have played each other every season for decades in many sports. Proximity and league implications are a big part of the rivalry.
In softball, the schools are rivals for more than the normal reasons. Many players on Kenton Ridge and Shawnee’s rosters are teammates come summer time.
“I played for the Springfield Bandits, and practically the whole team was Shawnee and KR players,” Kenton Ridge third baseman Sarah Albaugh said after a win over Meadowdale last Tuesday. “It’s really interesting to go up against them. It adds to the rivalry; they’re my biggest rivals.” [Read more…]
Kenton Ridge uses four hits in fifth inning to score three runs and earn a 3-0 win.
SPRINGFIELD — Kenton Ridge has seen Shawnee ace Emily McKillip before. Many Cougars’ players have faced the senior pitcher in previous seasons and have also played against her in summer league games. Sophomore first baseman Mariyah Burkhardt knew it wouldn’t be easy to hit McKillip, but she knew the Cougars could hit enough.
That knowledge and experience paid off in the fifth inning. Kenton Ridge got four hits off of McKillip and scored three runs in the fifth en route to a 3-0 win over Shawnee on Tuesday night at Ed Foulk Field.
“We knew going into the game that she was going to pitch us hard,” Burkhardt said after the game of McKillip. “We knew some key points in her pitching, so I think that helped us.” [Read more…]
