Did Bellefontaine struggle in the mud at Tippecanoe after getting used to turf?
Bellefontaine was lambasted at Tippecanoe on a muddy grass field last week. Kenton Ridge sloshed through a surprisingly easy victory over Shawnee. It was a game where even Shawnee head coach Rick Meeks knew that his team had to get some offense going in the second half because traction would be at a minimum.
Bellefontaine is a speed-oriented team on its home AcuSport Stadium, which has artificial turf. Was the muddy field in Tipp City’s park a factor in their loss to the Red Devils last week? [Read more…]
Cougars and Braves are tied for first and average over 440 yards on offense and 39 points per game.
SPRINGFIELD — Despite plenty of success already this season, Kenton Ridge and Shawnee are still trying to prove themselves to naysayers.
Kenton Ridge and Shawnee took steps toward proving naysayers wrong last week. Kenton Ridge beat previously undefeated Tecumseh 32-25 in overtime, while Shawnee beat previously undefeated Tippecanoe 33-28.
One team will take another step toward proving itself on Friday, but the other won’t. Kenton Ridge (6-0, 1-0 Kenton Trail) hosts Shawnee (4-2, 1-0) in a key conference game at Richard L. Phillips Field. [Read more…]
The CBC Kenton Trail gets underway with two heavyweight games on Friday with Tecumseh at Kenton Ridge and Tippecanoe at Shawnee.
It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. A tale of two cities, or in this case two divisions, speaks for itself.
The Central Buckeye Conference is split into two divisions, and this season they cannot be too different.
The six teams in the Kenton Trail Division have an overall record of 25-5, with three teams at 5-0. The worst record of any team in the conference is 3-2 (both Shawnee and Stebbins). [Read more…]
Friday on TBSN: Springfield at Miamisburg on Stream 1, Northmont at Piqua on Stream 2.
We here at Top Billing Sports look forward to Friday night lights. They help us to move past the Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson sagas that caused a week-long media frenzy. Also, the Big Ten is more brutal than ever. I used to be a defendant of the conference, but now I’m a prosecutor.
Even so, there was Friday. The local gridiron helps you move on with your week. Last week we saw Shawnee get their first win of the season in a 34-9 pounding of previously undefeated Carroll. The Braves should continue on the warpath again this week at home. Tonight, we look froward to Springfield travelling to Miamisburg in a GWOC crossover battle. The Vikings look to continue their running success against Springfield’s athletes. [Read more…]
Aviators allowed 641 yards against Shawnee; Tecumseh had 205 yards on offense against Fairborn.
SPRINGFIELD — The debut of Tecumseh’s new offense didn’t light up the scoreboard last Friday night. The Arrows’ had 205 yards with their new spread offense and didn’t score.
None of which upsets Butler head coach Greg Bush. The Aviators (1-0) will travel to Spitzer Stadium next Friday to play Tecumseh (1-0) in a nonconference game.
Bush isn’t sad to see Tecumseh’s wing-t go, and isn’t sad the Aviators’ next opponent struggled on offense in its first game. The Aviators allowed 641 yards in their first game against Shawnee. [Read more…]

Kenton Ridge travels to Tippecanoe for a Division III, Region 10 quarterfinal game tonight.
SPRINGFIELD — Kenton Ridge held Tippecanoe close in the first half of a Central Buckeye Conference game on Oct. 25. The Red Devils led 7-0 at halftime, the lowest first-half output the Red Devils had on offense all season.
But Tippecanoe senior running back Jacob Hall came alive in the second half.
Hall ran for four second-half touchdowns, including two runs of 69 and 56 yards. It was enough to lead Tippecanoe to a 35-7 win. Tonight at Tipp City Park, the Cougars have an opportunity to shut down Tippecanoe for a full game. [Read more…]
