Yellow Jackets jump out to 14-0 lead and never look back in 52-28 win over Troy.
SIDNEY — Behind the running of Isaiah Bowser and Alex Gordon Sidney cruised to a 52-28 win over Troy on Senior Night at Sidney Memorial Stadium. The Yellow Jackets had 476 yards in the offensive battle and scored nearly at-will.
Bowser and Gordon scored the first two touchdowns of the game on runs of six and 10 yards, respectively. The touchdowns gave Sidney 14-0 lead just four minutes into the quarter and set the tone for the game.
Troy scored in second quarter with Hayden Kotwica passing to Hayden Jackson and a three-yard run from Marc Scordia to cut the Sidney lead to 29-14. But a 36-yard field goal from Danny Dean right before half stopped any momentum Troy gained.
Alex Gordon rushed for 101 yards on 13 carries and passed for 105 yards, including a 77-yard touchdown pass to Damien Duff. Bowser finished with 153 rushing yards. Bowser rushed for two touchdowns in the game, and Gordon ran for three.
Troy was led by Hayden Kotwica with 23 rushes for 99 yards. He was 10-of-21 passing for 144 yards. Marc Scordia chipped in with 12 attempts for 51 yards and one touchdown and freshman RB Sam Jackson ran for 80 yards on three attempts, including a 64-yard touchdown run.
“We were not a good team at all tonight,” Troy head coach Matt Burgbacher said after the game. “Still making too many mental mistakes. Not a good performance at all. But give credit to Sidney as they took it to us.”
Troy (2-6, 1-2 GWOC North) hosts Butler next Friday.
