Northwestern scores four in 8th to beat Shawnee 11-7 in softball.
SPRINGFIELD — Shawnee’s Kalen Frederick threw a perfect game in the Braves’ 5-0 win over Northwestern on Thursday night. It’s the first perfect game Braves’ head coach Rob Cassell has seen in his 18 years of coaching.
The Braves improved to 11-7 overall on the season and return to action at home on Saturday against Xenia.
Softball: Kenton Ridge 7, Graham 5
Kenton Ridge scored all seven runs in the first three innings and held on for a 7-5 win in a CBC crossover game. The Falcons scored two runs in the third and three in the fourth to pull close, but the Cougars held on from there.
Brittany Harting batted in three RBI’s for Kenton Ridge and had a triple. Learic Kinser went 4-for-4 to raise her season batting average to .615. Sarah Albaugh and Kirstyn Baise both went 2-for-3 in the game, and Mariyah Burkhardt doubled.
Learic Kinser picked up the win in the circle for Kenton Ridge to improve her record to 17-2.
Regan Foster and Madison Bryant both went 2-for-4 for Graham and hit home runs.
Kenton Ridge (19-2) plays next Friday night against North Union (top ranked Div. III team) at Gahanna Lincoln High School.
Softball: Northwestern 11, Shawnee 7 in 8 innings
Northwestern survived hail, wind and a late comeback attempt to earn an 11-7 win in a crossover game at Shawnee.
Shawnee scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings, but the Warriors answered with four runs in the top of the eighth to stop the comeback. Both teams’ bats were hot – Northwestern had 16 hits in the game, and Shawnee had 12.
The game was delayed in the fourth inning do to a popup hail storm.
Maddie Current went 3-for-5 with two RBI’s and scored three runs for the Warriors, and Shelby Lewis went 2-for-4 with two RBI’s. Rachel Martin went 3-for-5, and Taj Knicely went 2-for-4 and scored two runs.
Jenna Robbins earned the win for Northwestern, and Mary Britton picked up the loss for the Braves.
Abbie Tuttle went 2-for-4 for Shawnee with three RBI’s. Aliya Saunders also went 2-for-4, and Karlee Sine went 2-for-3. Grace Miller went 3-for-5 for the Braves.
Shawnee plays next at Tecumseh on Friday, and Northwestern plays next on Monday at Benjamin Logan.
Softball: Northeastern 7, Catholic Central 0
Kaitlyn Moore threw a no-hitter to lead Northeastern to a 3-0 win over Catholic Central in an OHC game. Moore struck out 12 batters and walked three in the game.
Casey Moore 2-for-2 at the plate with five RBI’s for the Jets.
Baseball: Cedarville 3, Northeastern 2
Cedarville scored two runs in the top of the fourth to overcome Northeastern’s lead and earn a 3-2 win at Fifth Third Field. The Indians started the fourth with three hits and scored both runs on sacrifice groundouts.
Mitchell McCorkle went 3-for-4 for Northeastern, and Brock Hodson went 2-for-4.
Baseball: Middletown Christian 7, Emmanuel Christian 2
Addison Love went 2-for-2 and scored one run for the Lions (1-10). Braxton Rodenburger and Andrew Luckhaupt went 2-for-4 for Middletown Christian.
