Springfield baseball earns 2-1 extra innings win over Kenton Ridge.
SPRINGFIELD — The Kenton Ridge Cougars are off to a quick start to the 2015 softball season. Kenton Ridge earned an 11-0 win in five innings against Springfield on Tuesday, a night after opening the season with a 12-2 win over Beavercreek.
The Wildcats committed nine errors in the game, and Kenton Ridge took full advantage. Kenton Ridge set the tone early against Springfield with eight runs in the top of the first inning and added two in the third and one in the fourth.
Kenton Ridge pitcher Courtney Lopez picked her up second win of the season and allowed one hit against Springfield. Sarah Albaugh went 2-for-3 with a double, and Learic Kinser and Brittany Harting both went 2-for-4.
Kinser’s had a fast start to the season. She went 3-for-4 against Beavercreek on Monday, including a home run. She had 4 RBI’s against the Beavers. Freshman Carly Turner also had 4 RBI’s in Monday in her first varsity game and went 2-for-4.
Kenton Ridge (2-0) hosts inter-district rival Northeastern on Wednesday night.
Baseball: Springfield 2, Kenton Ridge 1 nine innings
Junior catcher Anthony Reed knocked in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Springfield a win in its season opener.
Reed went 2-for-4 and knocked in both runs in the game for the Wildcats. Ryan Prendergast picked up the win on the mound and went 4-for-5 in the game. Mitchell Schneider picked up the loss for Kenton Ridge.
Springfield travels to Northwestern on Wednesday night.
Baseball: Southeastern 10, Mechanicsburg 3
Southeastern scored runs in each of the first five innings, including three in the third to spark a blowout OHC opener win.
Zane Severt doubled in the third and singled in the fifth for Southeastern. He had two RBI’s in the game, as did Trevor King. Andrew Lyons allowed three hits and struck out four in six innings on the mound for Southeastern.
Southeastern improves to 1-1 after losing its season opener to Northwestern on Monday. The Trojans travel to Xenia on Wednesday.
Caleb Newsome went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Mechanicsburg (1-1). The Indians won their season opener on Monday 4-3 against Emmanuel Christian.
