Troy rallied late but couldn’t complete comeback.
TROY — It was the Dezmin Lyburtus show at Troy Memorial Stadium Friday night as he led the Bellefontaine Chieftains to a 30-22 win over the Troy Trojans on Hall of Fame Night.
The Chiefs got out in front 16-0 with RB Trey Stahler scoring on two runs from 2 yards and 4 yards. Trojans were helped by several Bellefontaine penalties on that drive which went for 70 yards. In the first half alone Bellefontaine was penalized nine times and Troy flagged eight times themselves.
“Our offense was non-existent in the first half after that late scoring drive. No consistency at all,” Troy coach Matt Burgbacher said. “We need to have a good week starting tomorrow and continue it through the week. This was a disappointing loss to say the least. These kids need to be held accountable. Especially the seniors. No finger pointing. Our coaches will work hard to fix this. Any finger pointing should be at me. After last season every one wants us this season.”
Jayden Culp-Bishop got Troy in the scoring column early in the third quarter with a 57-yard TD run just 26 seconds in to cut Bellefontaine’s lead to 16-14. Culp-Bishop finished the game with 27 rushes for 187 yards on the night.

The rain came down early in the 3rd quarter and the rest of the game making for a slippery surface.

“Lyburtis is just a phenoninal athlete. He creates something when it appears there is nothing. He’s a great kid” said Matt Burgbacher
